In 1930s western Ireland, feisty peasant Bull McCabe (Richard Harris) expects no competition when he bids on the piece of land he has rented and cultivated for many years. To his surprise, a wealthy Irish-American developer (Tom Berenger) wants the land, too. And so begins a protracted battle for the parcel in director Jim Sheridan's bleakly gritty drama, his follow-up to the acclaimed My Left Foot. John Hurt co-stars as the village idiot.
